01Protect enjoyment
Weโre asking clubs, academies, schools and governing bodies to make player retention, confidence and enjoyment part of how success is measured.
Too many young players leave sport before they ever get the chance to fall in love with it. Weโre calling on parents, coaches, clubs and governing bodies to put confidence, enjoyment and long-term development ahead of pressure and early results.
WHY THIS MATTERS
When young people leave sport, they can lose more than the game itself. Sport can build confidence, friendships, healthy habits and skills they carry into everyday life.
There isnโt one reason young people stop. Pressure can build. Confidence can drop. The fun can disappear. Research shows that enjoyment, feeling capable, support from others and the coaching environment can all affect whether young people stay in sport.
Sport should help young people grow, not make them want to walk away.
We believe better support from parents, coaches, clubs and schools can help more young people enjoy sport for longer, keep developing and stay in the game.
THE BELIEF
not push young people out before theyโve had the chance to grow.
That play into adulthood.
should grow through sport.
keeps young people playing.
THE CAUSE
WHEN PRESSURE GROWS AND ENJOYMENT FADES, EVEN A SPORT THEY LOVE CAN STOP FEELING WORTH IT.
Too many young players feel pressure to perform, instead of feeling free to enjoy the game.
When self-worth is linked to winning, mistakes feel bigger and many lose confidence.
Sport shapes more than players. It builds confidence, healthy habits and skills that can last a lifetime.
